Welcome to the Outdoor Learning area
At Burradon we just love learning outdoors and are fortunate enough to have lots of different outdoor spaces. We have our playground with its different areas such as the Reading Den and Fire Pit. In addition we have our MUGAs for team games, our large playing field and our brilliant woodland area with its polytunnel and pond, which means the children can enjoy a very full range of activities.
Each class uses our outdoor area to enhance their learning across all subjects. Take a look at our photographs to see the enormous range of activities we get a chance to participate in. We go outdoors across the curriculum e.g. art, science, geography, mathematics, English and much more.
Our woodland area is a favourite with all the children, we use it for stimulating writing, pond dipping, growing vegetables in our polytunnel, learning about habitats, bird and bug hunts just as a few examples.
As well as during class time, the children at our school enjoy a range of interesting outdoor learning activities during morning break with the teaching assistants. They have lots of fun while learning. Activities include word searches, phonic games, treasure hunts, board games and physical activities. We love to get outdoors and get busy learning and developing our skills. We have recently had some new playground markings installed to help with phonics, maths and fitness. We LOVE them!
In addition at Burradon we have clubs where we can learn more about the outdoors such as, our amazing Fire Pit Club, Science Club as well as, our aptly named Outdoor Learning Club.
Going off-site (trips)
We get to visit lots of lovely places to build our outdoor skills such as map skills, orienteering, abseiling, taste testing, rock pooling, making outdoor art etc.
Take a look at our photographs to get a taster of all the fun we have!
