Autumn Term Year 4

Welcome to Year 4

Spring term already - and Year 4 are continuing to work extremely hard.

In year 4 we love to read and everyone is bringing in their reading diaries and books every day.

It is really important in Year 4 that you read everyday, learn your times tables and your weekly spellings.

PE - Monday - Yoga

        Wednesday - Basketball

Remember your PE kit of white t-shirt and black or navy shorts.

Lets worked hard this year but have fun doing it!

Careers

This half term we have had a careers focus across the school. The children have had adults from a variety of jobs speak to them in assembly, Year 4 enjoyed 'Careers Speed Dating' in which they moved around the hall, interrogating a variety of people from different companies about their jobs (including Barclays, the Baltic, a CCTV company, a teaching supply agency, and someone from the department of work and pensions!) then furthermore, we have had a few visitors in class, to give children a change to learn about yet more jobs they might be unfamiliar with, and ask any questions they liked...

Year 4 enjoyed hearing Nina talk about being a Chemical Engineer (in particular her work developing a machine to mix Ben and Jerry's ice cream!!), Andy come and talk about his job as Director of an Estate Agent (which involved the area and perimeter we were learning about in maths, and lots of persuasive talking and writing as we have been doing in literacy), Angela talking about her job as a Nurse (both in hospitals and a doctor's surgery) and Luke talking about his job as an Electrical Engineering, and his current post building wind turbines.

This is a picture of Luke climbing the wind turbine to get to work!!!

Rounding Numbers

Below are a selection of rounding numbers maths games. These start easier and get more challenging towards the bottom. See if you can find time to have a go, to get even more confident at these.

Times Table Games

Our maths targets this term are all about times tables, so the more practice you get, the better! Maybe try and do 5 minutes a day on a times table you find tricky.
